Green Hornet Movie: Stung by a stereotype?

The Green Hornet!

Another day in remake paradise. Since Comic Con I had my reserves on this flick, but I knew it was only a matter of time, until my inner “Kato” told me to chop the silence on this one…”Wow! The Green Hornet is coming to the big screen!” is what the average excitement produces to most people… on the other half, most people don’t take that excitement for granted. Specially the ones who followed the short run back 1966; while England was winning the World Soccer Cup, Bruce Lee and “The Black Beauty” was winning the tv hearts of most men from that generation.

Let’s cut to business, it’s no wonder and no news that The Green Hornet is finally set to fly onto the big screen this December.  Despite the fact that “the Hornet” has faced a bumpy ride to make it there, it faces the “surprisingly” fact that Seth Rogen is the man behind the mask of Britt Reid as The Green Hornet. Seth is not only taking the main role, but he’s also involved in the production of the film as a screenwriter. This been said, let’s check out the Pros and Cons of The Green Hornet.

PROS:

1)  To most people, specially the new generations that don’t have a clue about The Green Hornet, this might turn out to be a “great new movie”.
2)  If Rogen pulls this one off in a smooth way, this might catapult him to more serious roles than the usual stupid ones. No offense, I like the dude, but I think sometimes he tries to hard in being funny.
3)  We get to see a beautiful Black Beauty car.  As a matter of fact they used “the killer car” as a fan magnet at this year’s SDCC.

CONS:

1)   If Rogen turns this one into a “humoristic caper” then the Daily Sentinel headline will read: We knew it, The Green Hornet was killed by an idiotic joke!!!
2)  The fact that you co-produce a film, doesn’t mean you have to act on it. I’m sorry Rogen is known for foolish roles, the goof ball stereotype is so strong, that it’s hard to take him damn serious for the Britt Reid role.
3)  Bruce Lee as Kato was ahead of its time.  Van Williams as Britt Reid solved crimes, but Kato was the star! Jay Chou is no Bruce. He definitely will be compared to him. Chou has much to show. Can his musical background honor the beloved Kato? I believe a Tony Jaa would’ve been a more kick ass pick, however maybe to much for Seth Rogen to handle.
4)  Rogen isn’t superhero material, neither stands off for a Van Williams personality. It’s like if Will Ferrell has the brilliant idea of becoming Bruce Wayne for The Dark Knight!!!

As many, I’m skeptical on the upcoming film, I have more doubts than assertions.  However, I’ll give Rogen the benefit of the doubt. I’m looking forward in seeing if The Green Hornet makes a serious breakthrough or if Rogen makes a declaration of stupidity on this one.

Strike of The Green Hornet!

The Green Hornet thru time. Enjoy the show and you be the judge…
