Can Freddy still keep you late at night with a crucifix?
Hey! Got an idea, let’s make a movie today an reboot it every 20 or 25 years! Terrifying isn’t it? Either Hollywood is running out of ideas or so it seems this is a money making formula that doesn’t require much creative effort. Makes sense, if what you want is to pour in some extra dough for future generations to come, but really do some horror franchises like Nightmare on Elm street, need the scary comeback?
It was just a matter of time for someone at New Line Cinema to come up at a meeting board with the idea to revamp good ‘ol Freddy. I don’t care what other sites or blogs might say, but the 2010 Elm Street is still a remake! So after 8 films of the Krueger saga, this “new one” seems to focus on Freddy’s origin. So after fighting, killing and going after Jason the brilliant idea was obvious, let’s go for it’s origin. Brilliant huh? So the missing link of the origin now fills in the “empty slot” to the Elm Street film collection. It’s a remake, with a slightly twist. Remake:
verb |rēˈmāk; ˈrē-| ( past and past part. -made ) [ trans. ]
make (something) again or differently : the bed would be more comfortable if it were remade. Now would it???
I like Freddy, he’s a “nice guy”, but do his blades still have the wits to deliver some chills up your spine? Robert Englund was brilliant in the first two, the others where a “nightmare”. So who’s to fill in the stripped fedora of Elm’s Street favorite bedtime storyteller? Jackie Earle Haley, the great dude who played Rorschach in Watchmen. I certainly applaud and approve Jackie, he’s a great actor that if well directed by Samuel Bayer, could probably leave new and past generations with some insomnia. Will see, when Freddy comes after you on April 30, 2010.
